The finest furniture makers in Norfolk

Coming exhibitions and events 2011:

'MASTERPIECE' An exhibition of the best in bespoke furniture, in association with the National Trust

Blickling Hall, Norfolk

10th September 23rd October, 2011
Wednesday - Sunday. 11am - 5pm

Visit any historic country house and the contents you see will invariably date from the 17th 19th century. But, if these houses were being built today how would they be furnished by their discerning owners?

The exhibition is being presented within the hall itself allowing contemporary pieces to be seen in historical context. It will be possible to compare the differences (and the similarities) between antique furniture and that made by 21st century craftsmen; not only in terms of design but also with regard to construction methods and the types of woods used.

'MASTERPIECE' is a demonstration of the art of bespoke furniture making in the 21st century where unique pieces are available for sale with prices from around 300 - 15,000+

Awards made to members during 2010

Derrick Ibbot won the Christopher Claxton-Stevens award for his chest of drawers ’Symphony no1’ in olive ash.

Symphony No 1 in olive ash

This highly coveted award is presented once a year for the most outstanding piece of furniture to have been submitted to the Worshipful Company of Furniture for their Guild Mark scheme. Derrick is one of the youngest makers to have won this award and the first to come from Norfolk.

In January, Toby Winteringham won the Gane Trust Award for Design and Craftsmanship at The Society of Designer Craftsmen show at The Mall Galleries London.

Furniture exhibitions

The Norfolk Furniture Makers aim to have at least one exhibition a year. This is to provide, under one roof, an opportunity for the public to view the wide range of furniture produced by members of the Association.

It also enables people to meet the craftsmen themselves and to discuss the work. Such exhibitions provide an ideal way of embarking on the commissioning process.
